Ko Wai Au Update

Task Description: I have currently completed my physical presentation for my ko wai au project. Now I am currently finishing a script for my presentation. So far I have included culture and values, an introduction, my passions and the  current paragraph I have finished is an overall rounding off of who I am. I have been told that we might present in front of the class while others said I would record, so I am currently not entirely sure of what exactly I will be doing.

Overall I am doing okay with my script and have even added a bible verse in one of my paragraphs. I hope to slightly remove a few sentences as I don’t want my presentation to be overly long. Though I feel like I am okay with this script.

Kiwi Can week 4

Task Description: Last week in kiwi can we discussed a new topic and a new country. Our new country was Rotuma. The greeting form Rotuma was ”noi’a”. Rotuma is a small country near Fiji and runs under their government. Rotuma is a very small island to the fact that it only has 2,000 people living there right now. One sad fact that has been told to us by kiwi can is that Rotuma’s flag is actually not the real flag. A New Zealander made a flag without their permission and that flag is known to be the so-called Rotuma flag until this day. Rotuma’s real flag is actually the Fijian flag as they run under their government.

Our new topic was ”making good choices”, which also runs under the theme of integrity. We were asked questions about this particular topic such as ”what is a good choice” or “how do we make good choices.” As usual we had a few seconds to think of a few answers. Some of the answers were difficult to think of, as we only had limited time to think. As usual we did our energiser and activity, our energiser was silent cones. To be able to win we had to choose a corner/cone to hide in and we had to be as silent as our body could allow us. Then for our activity we had this human game of knots and crosses, also known as tic-tac-toe.  It was very high pressured as you needed to plan on the spot and everything was unpredictable.

ANZAC Art

Task Description: In this task I was given a challenge to recreate a picture that was similar to the artwork I made. I used various tools on google draw such as the poly line tool and shapes. I got the soldier for the web I personally just searched up ”soldier shadow png”. The png part of the search makes sure it has a transparent background so we only get the soldier. A few of the challenges were knowing how the structures were made.  The sun was made from a circle in shape, the mountains were made from the poly line tool, and the sunset was from the gradient aspect in the background section. We did this activity because it is almost ANZAC day.

Kiwi Kids News-Canada spying

Task Description: In this task I have read an article from kiwi kids news about Canada being caught spying on New Zealand’s training. I tried to make the text as big as possible so that you can read my answers to the questions. This event took place in the women’s  FIFA ,and that’s when Canada got caught spying on New Zealand. Canada got  deducted a large amount of points giving New Zealand an advantage ,but making it hard for Canada to proceed to get more points.  Their coach also got banned for a year. One of the judges felt sympathy for the players as well, I still don’t know why or how they got his sympathy. I found this article quite interesting due to the fact Canada was playing against New Zealand. I highly enjoyed answering the last question because it got me to think for quite a bit of time before I answered. I think you should also have a look at kiwi kids news because there are some sections to choose from such as world or odd news.

Synonyms

Task description: In this task I have found synonyms or better words for sad, mad, walk, look and good. We had to come up with a total of 5 synonyms and we had to use one for those synonyms  in a sentence. luckily in our class we had a wall that has synonyms for multiple words, so I just had to look up there.

DRSABC

Task description: In this task we have done a session with st John’s first aid. We have learnt what the DRSABC means and back in class my teacher showed us things in her first aid kit. In this I learnt what to do in different medical situations and that first aid kits also need updating. You need to update you first aid kits because if you keep plasters or dressing in there for too long plasters can lose their stick and dressings might get germs inside.

Science

Task description:This term our main focus is science. We have been doing experiments and we are currently learning more about atoms , molecules and a little bit about the periodic table. In this task we boiled water and milk to see what it would do. We boil them on a low heat because if milk is boiled too fast it will turn hard or create a skin on top. we saw bubbles around the edges and the bottom of the pans.

Manaakitanga

Task description: In this task we have created another mosaic about the value Manaakitanga. Some main words that include Manaakitanga are respect and kindness. If you want to learn more about Manaakitanga you can read the small blurb I have put on the side near the mosaic I have made. This is the only value we have not done before in the other weeks. This is because we have already done Ranagatiratanga, whanuangatanga and Kaitiakitanga.

Orca The Worlds Largest Dolphin

Task description: In this task we have read about the orcas  and completed an activity. In this book I have learnt that the orcas are also known as the killer whales. this is not because they are whales that kill this is because orcas are actually the killer of whales. In this activity there are inference questions, evaluative questions, comparative questions and direct questions .On the first page there is a vocabulary task where my whole reading group had to put a tick mark into the boxes. Each row has 6 boxes but skip the last few boxes because that is for after reading. in the 5 boxes there is a words and 4 empty boxes. in the first row there is a box that says word another that says ‘never seen this before’ and so on .

Harry’s war

Task description: In this task I have read a story named Harry’s war . each slide has 2 questions. each slides question is either , evaluation ,inference, or direct. Evaluating means to use our knowledge and the knowledge from the book . Inference means just using our core knowledge. Direct means the answers literally written in the book.
