Book Review- Mortal Engines

Task Description: Around the end of last term or at the very beginning of this term, my teacher had given me my duffy books and asked for a book review. I am not sure if she even remembers about it herself, though I have already done my library book one.  I have spent a month or 2 reading this book and trying to see if it is a good and well recommended book. I have decided that it is in fact a good book and decided to do a short book review  based off this book. As written in the review, this is mainly futuristic and has lots of dystopian hints as well. All inclusive, this isn’t for anyone who reads any sort of fluffy sugarcoated books.

A Moment in Time with Whanau

Task Description: In this task I have been asked to describe a moment with my family or  also known as Whānau. This piece of descriptive writing is going to be marked for my middle year report card so I tried to do my utmost best while writing this piece. I have chosen to write about a time where I finally went back to the Philippines with my family after 7 years. I used my senses to paint a picture into my mind, describing all the small details and moments that happened on the plane. Before I had the total of 5 paragraphs, I only had 3-4. This is not because I wrote very little, but the true reason is because my paragraphs were very long.

Ko Wai Au Update

Task Description: I have currently completed my physical presentation for my ko wai au project. Now I am currently finishing a script for my presentation. So far I have included culture and values, an introduction, my passions and the  current paragraph I have finished is an overall rounding off of who I am. I have been told that we might present in front of the class while others said I would record, so I am currently not entirely sure of what exactly I will be doing.

Overall I am doing okay with my script and have even added a bible verse in one of my paragraphs. I hope to slightly remove a few sentences as I don’t want my presentation to be overly long. Though I feel like I am okay with this script.

Kiwi Can week 4

Task Description: Last week in kiwi can we discussed a new topic and a new country. Our new country was Rotuma. The greeting form Rotuma was ”noi’a”. Rotuma is a small country near Fiji and runs under their government. Rotuma is a very small island to the fact that it only has 2,000 people living there right now. One sad fact that has been told to us by kiwi can is that Rotuma’s flag is actually not the real flag. A New Zealander made a flag without their permission and that flag is known to be the so-called Rotuma flag until this day. Rotuma’s real flag is actually the Fijian flag as they run under their government.

Our new topic was ”making good choices”, which also runs under the theme of integrity. We were asked questions about this particular topic such as ”what is a good choice” or “how do we make good choices.” As usual we had a few seconds to think of a few answers. Some of the answers were difficult to think of, as we only had limited time to think. As usual we did our energiser and activity, our energiser was silent cones. To be able to win we had to choose a corner/cone to hide in and we had to be as silent as our body could allow us. Then for our activity we had this human game of knots and crosses, also known as tic-tac-toe.  It was very high pressured as you needed to plan on the spot and everything was unpredictable.

Geometry 2D shapes

Task Description: I am currently practising my ability to classify irregular and regular shapes, as well as identify types of triangles and parts of circles. Despite me already having knowledge in this topic, I still choose to practice my ability to classify different triangles and pieces of circles. One piece of information that my teacher has missed was π (pi). In my mind, if we are learning about circles we should at least know how to recognise pi. Other than circles I have been learning how to identify different types of  triangles, also known as equilateral triangles, scalene triangles and isosceles triangles. The difference between these triangles  are written in the DLO that I have created.

Book Review (library book)

Task Description:  In this task I have written a short summary about a book I had borrowed from the library, though I haven’t finished the whole book  yet. As it says in my summary, I am still in chapter 11.  I have done a review similar to this in the past though I have done it in the book after that, also known as catching fire. This book review is also a book recommendation for people who are searching for another book to read or simply enjoy.  For me I have clearly enjoyed reading and summarising this book as I have in fact watched the movies before hand.  If you enjoy dystopian books and texts such as the Maze Runner or Divergent, I highly recommend this book to you.

Pepeha Tagalog version.26

Task Description: In this task I have been structuring and recording myself reading my pepeha. This is currently my Tagalog version. I am not sure if I have to create a Maori version though this is the main one I will be using for my Ko wai au.  A pepeha is a short introduction about yourself and your family, the Maori usually add their mountain and river. Though I am from the Philipines so I just added details about which country I live in and who my family is. This is Tagalog and because it is my first language I only had troubles on 2-3  words.

ANZAC cookies recipe

Task Description: In this task I have been baking ANZAC cookies with my class for ANZAC day which was last week. The only difference my class did compared to other classes is that we made the dough in a bag. We did this so that it is easier to tidy and there will be less dishes.  I really enjoyed making these cookies as we were in pairs and the cookies were very delicious in the end. Since we were in pairs, my buddy decided  to make 4 cookies in order to split it easily. Since there were different types of hardness ( chewy and crunchy) we also decided to do chewy. My DLO will include the recipe for the ANZAC cookies.

Maths Algorithms (Vertical Method)

Task Description: This week I have been focused on using algorithms to solve equations including larger numbers. The algorithm I have been using is the vertical method. I have been using this method in unit 2 topic 2 in my maths textbook. I did addition and subtraction for this algorithm. This has been a good refresh for me brain to get a head of the basics in mathematics. When I get to maths I have to make up a 5 digit number and add it with another person’s 5 digit number for a short warm up.

ANZAC Art

Task Description: In this task I was given a challenge to recreate a picture that was similar to the artwork I made. I used various tools on google draw such as the poly line tool and shapes. I got the soldier for the web I personally just searched up ”soldier shadow png”. The png part of the search makes sure it has a transparent background so we only get the soldier. A few of the challenges were knowing how the structures were made.  The sun was made from a circle in shape, the mountains were made from the poly line tool, and the sunset was from the gradient aspect in the background section. We did this activity because it is almost ANZAC day.
