Ko Wai Au Update

Task Description: I have currently completed my physical presentation for my ko wai au project. Now I am currently finishing a script for my presentation. So far I have included culture and values, an introduction, my passions and the  current paragraph I have finished is an overall rounding off of who I am. I have been told that we might present in front of the class while others said I would record, so I am currently not entirely sure of what exactly I will be doing.

Overall I am doing okay with my script and have even added a bible verse in one of my paragraphs. I hope to slightly remove a few sentences as I don’t want my presentation to be overly long. Though I feel like I am okay with this script.

Flying squirrel SLJ- Kick start

Task Description; Yesterday I started another summer learning journey task, I have only finished my model today Because I started the activity late yesterday, around 7 pm. In this task I had to study about flying squirrels, and also to make a model of the flying squirrel in order to complete this task.

I have used felt paper and hot glue to glue the pieces together.  In the body I have stuffed it in the middle to act as a stomach and use black marker to mark around the stomach. Then I used the  same pen to draw the face as well as outline the paws so I could cut around them properly. For the paws I just used small pieces of felt and blued them on. For under the tail I used a cream/ skin colour felt while on the top I used the same grey. I did not have brown or light brown felt which is why I made my one grey.

Natural art SLJ- Kick start

Task Description: In this task I have used a few rocks and small stems to create a butterfly for the “natural art” summer learning journey task. I have done the “flying squirrels” summer learning journey task, though I have not blogged about it yet. I hope to blog it later this afternoon when I come back home.

This summer learning journey was not hard at all. All I needed to do was grab a few rocks to create a butterfly body and wings as well as 2 small stems for the antennas.  Then I simply put the rocks and stems away after I made sure I had at least 1 or 2 photos that I have taken.

Tiger animation- SLJ task

Task Description: Today I have done another SLJ activity for this week. I didn’t post anything yesterday as my family were literally out all day to visit family friends for Christmas to come together and celebrate Christmas together. I also opened my presents on Christmas eve at 12 pm instead of Christmas day  so I woke up at 11 in the afternoon.

This task is the step up for the tigers task. I have made an animation. The first few slides are an introduction. Then the next 10-20 slides I have made a little  showcase of the ages of the tiger which I have named Eliana. Then the next few slides is a wild boar chasing the tiger. Wild boars are one of the animals that hunt tigers. I am not sure if the slides will start immediately or you will have to flip the slides manually. So just be aware of that.

Tigers- SLJ Kick start

Task description: In this task I have made an information board including facts on tigers. It is quite obvious that for this task, the main topic is tigers. It didn’t take me long to complete it as all I did was add facts baout tigers and decorate the page a bit.

I first added all the shapes, text boxes and background colour. Then after that was all complete I moved on to adding all the  information and searching up facts based off tigers of course  after a few minutes the board was done, though it felt kind of empty so I went to google to find pictures on tigers and put an image through remove.bg.

SLJ-Animal Tricksters Step it up

Task Description:  In this task I have designed a sort of insect of which people might confuse it for being related to ladybugs or even fireflies. This is because the insect I have created lights up exactly like a firefly and the colour is similar to a ladybugs. I have tried to make this as confusing as possible and as you can see there are antennas for a butterfly but for this insect the antennas are the eyes.

This task wasn’t  too hard to do as all I had to do was get 2 reference insects and try to make them similar but confusing all at the exact same time. Today I was fully free as me and my family did not have to go anywhere so I chose to have some free time to myself in the morning before going onward with the SLJ tasks.

SLJ Which one does not belong- kick start

Task description- This week I have started another SLJ task. I was out all day so I didn’t get much time to finish it , so I just quickly watched the videos and finished all the activities.  Tomorrow  I will most likely do the step it up challenge tomorrow as well as the kick start for tomorrow though I am not sure I will get it all done.

In this task I was asked to fill it in and watch all the videos to try and eventually work out the animal that does not belong or relate to any of these animals/ insects. It was kind of hard as 2 were insects and the other 2 from the information I got were sea/ land and sea  animals.

SlJ Mosha’s Special Leg – Kick start

Task Description: I have done another summer learning journey activity after a short break yesterday. I haven’t done much because I found a hobby for origami and other crafty things such as crocheting and drawing. I can’t wait to start the next activity for this which is the “Turbo’s upgrade” task which is like this on but instead of changing the leg we will change the little wheel device he has.

I have dedicated this legs to the movie tangled as I have recently made the infamous tangled flower. I found that purple and yellow go very well together as a colour combo which is also another reason I did a tangled theme. I added the infamous fry pan which Rapunzel has on her when she first meets Flynn  as well as a small flower on the top section. I first watched the video on how to make this on the task from the summer learning journey. Once I knew how to add the leg to Mosha the process became very easy  for me to successfully complete.

SLJ Legs Tally- Step it Up

Task Description: I have finished yet another task for the SLJ Legs tally Step it up.  This task is not more focused on maths but is more rounded to information gathering and research. This task actually helped me learn more about centipedes in general, though I have never ever seen a a centipede with my own eyes ever.

Centipedes  creep me out quite a bit and if I imagine a centipede climbing on my arm I would freak out. I learnt heaps about centipedes like one of my favourite facts is the fact that centipedes actually have a lot of legs but the number of legs they have always are odd numbered and not even. I find centipedes fascinating and simply misunderstood as  they are completely harmless to us humans.

SLJ Legs tally-Kick start

Task Description: In this task I have done maths based on the New Zealand giant centipede. This Summer learning journey task was centred around maths and using different maths techniques to solve questions as well as evolving around centipedes. Like one question said ” if a centipede has 100 legs how many pairs would there be”

I learnt to think outside the box for these questions and had to use many different strategies to solve all the maths questions on the task. This didn’t take much time for me to complete as you don’t have to create something like the other tasks which took me a day or 2  to finish up. There were 2 questions that were very similar so i did the answer for both of them as the same. I am still un-sure if those answers are correct. The questions were ”how many lots of 4 are there in 100?” The second question was “100 divided by 4 equals how much?” So I am not sure if there are separate answers or they are the same so I simply put the answer as the same for both.
