A Moment in Time with Whanau

Task Description: In this task I have been asked to describe a moment with my family or  also known as Whānau. This piece of descriptive writing is going to be marked for my middle year report card so I tried to do my utmost best while writing this piece. I have chosen to write about a time where I finally went back to the Philippines with my family after 7 years. I used my senses to paint a picture into my mind, describing all the small details and moments that happened on the plane. Before I had the total of 5 paragraphs, I only had 3-4. This is not because I wrote very little, but the true reason is because my paragraphs were very long.

ANZAC cookies recipe

Task Description: In this task I have been baking ANZAC cookies with my class for ANZAC day which was last week. The only difference my class did compared to other classes is that we made the dough in a bag. We did this so that it is easier to tidy and there will be less dishes.  I really enjoyed making these cookies as we were in pairs and the cookies were very delicious in the end. Since we were in pairs, my buddy decided  to make 4 cookies in order to split it easily. Since there were different types of hardness ( chewy and crunchy) we also decided to do chewy. My DLO will include the recipe for the ANZAC cookies.

War writing ( based off a picture that was shown to me)

Task Description :In this task I was shown 3 random pictures to write about I chose one with tanks and soldiers because I found it most appealing. I wrote a description based off the picture because I have written enough explanation writing pieces. I tried to paragraph it the best I can though I think I overused a few words. I completely made up this story based off what story I saw through that photograph that was shown to me. it looked like they were going to war so I wrote about how they would’ve felt and tried to describe it my best. My teacher taught me to describe using our 5 senses so I tried to do the same though I know for a fact I missed out a few.

Update- This new text with a picture is an update requested by my teacher.

Typewriter Writing.26

Task Description: I am currently learning how to investigate and explain a foreign item. In this explanation I explained how to begin and finish writing on a typewriter. I have also included a short paragraph about the history and creators of the typewriters. This is going to be one of my last explanation writing pieces for the term. This is because for the last 2 weeks of this term I will be writing narratives.

This piece of writing was a writing challenge from my teacher so that we can learn more about olden day materials and also grow our general facts knowledge. This piece of writing may be very long because as stated many times in this explanation, is because that using and understanding how to type on a typewriter is very difficult.

How the brain work.26

Task Description: In this task I am currently learning about the structure of an explanation and getting used to writing this way. I am also learning more about the 3 most important parts of the brain so  I could write about this. I enjoyed writing about this as this is one of the topics I have actually been fascinated to write about. This is the same with my past piece of writing which is called ” cheetah anatomy” or ” how does the cheetah run so fast?’. I really enjoyed writing this piece as it has been a while since I have had the choice to write about something. I loved writing about these topics because I always do get these thoughts while trying to fall asleep or in the shower. Then it bugs me for the whole day, which is why I like writing about it.

To write this piece of writing it took me a while since we needed to both write the actual explanation and research about the brain at the same time but in the end I was fine with it.  I finished this piece in a few days which shocked me because I didn’t think I would finish it in a few days because, like I said I had to both research and  and write so I was shocked.

Cheetah Explanation

Task Description: I am currently learning the structure of explanation writing and how to make my explanation writing better.  In this task I have chosen cheetahs  for the subject of my explanation writing because I wondered how they managed to run very fast. I have done some research on their anatomy and added simple and basic facts about it. One of the facts I have stated in my writing was  the fact that cheetahs shoulder blades are not attached to their  collar bones.

My opinion on  my piece of writing is that it could use improvement on the conclusion though it is pretty good and I think is consistent with  several other pieces of explanation writing I have done. I have greatly enjoyed writing this explanation because  I got to choose the topic myself and  have found out a lot of pretty interesting things about one of my favourite land animals.

Social Media Explanation

Task Description: I am currently learning the structure of an explanation writing piece and how to organise my paragraphs into neat and tidy topics. I first wrote this piece of writing in my writing book though I am not too good at writing in my writing book. so I finished it in my writing book and then re-wrote it in a google document and typed it out, then I added a few changes. I added more sentences and even another paragraph as I thought it was missing a few bits of information.

The reason I have blogged this quite late is because I am quite slow at writing in my writing book. this is because I like to have my handwriting neat and I also have to brainstorm for ideas on the spot which makes it quite time draining.  Then I had to re-write it into a google document as you wouldn’t be able to read it off my blog ,soon after I re-wrote it I made big changes to it as well.

Eruera Maihi Patuone

Task Description: In this task i have been learning more about Eruera Maihi Patuone who was one of the first rangatira to sign the treaty of Waitangi.  I wrote a longer and more in depth summary than I usually would do. I read the whole biography about  Eruera Maihi Patuone. This man has a whole biography written about him because of the fact he was an important connection and bridge between the Maoris and foreigners in Auckland. This biography was written about him also because of the fact he was a well known peace keeper and important to multiple governors.

I enjoyed this text quite a lot as it was in depth and explained the history really well. It explained multiple events and all the important things about him such as who he was and multiple other details. The biography of Eruera Maihi Patuone was told by his great-great-great-great grandson Fraser Smith. I have written a summary about it and labelled each paragraph based on which pages it summarises. There is also a QR code of me reading page 5 for this book. I stumbled quite a lot but in the end I got there.

Treaty of Waitangi Explanation -2026

Task Description: I have been learning to use explanations to organise and explain the context of my writing. For the past 1-2 weeks My class has been working on writing explanations writing pieces and organising our writing, so that our writing makes more sense and gets a better flow. I started writing this explanation last week  because last week was the week when Waitangi day came around.

It took me a while to finish this as I wanted the structure to be as best as I could get it, it also took slightly long because I have been re-writing and re-reading my text multiple times. I have tried my best to make my ideas clear and solid in my writing.I have taken screenshots of the doc and paragraphs and I turned them into a DLO or digital learning object.  At the top I added a text box to add information and state what my explanation includes , on top of the little information blurb I of course added the title and a few decorations to make it attractive and look fun to read.

Anniversary Disaster (Flood)-2026

Task Description: I have been writing an explanation story based on the anniversary weekend flooding and landslides. I have been learning how to explain and organise my ideas in explanation writing. I have been working on this piece of writing for around 3-4 days  this week. I have tried to make it as organised as possible, though I still think my conclusion needs slight work on it.  I have tried to include lots of simple facts as well as when it happened and where it happened.

It took me a while to be happy with my writing because I couldn’t properly place my ideas into place at first. Though in the end I managed to organise all of my ideas into good paragraphs that I was finally happy with. I learnt a lot about natural disasters while writing this, which in my case is a good thing because I am always open to learning about things I wonder about. I hope this also helps you feel alert about natural disasters as well.
